My photographs are often about the geometry of the subject, seen from a specific location, and with the light coming from a specific angle. “Shapes and tones,” as Andrew Sanderson would say. Change any one of those things and the photographs no longer works.
Occasionally, the proper alignment of those three things puts me and the camera in the frame. I hadn’t planned for it in this case. But it ended up being just the thing to anchor the bottom of the frame. We both held as still as we could.
