In exploring Winston-Salem, my adopted home town, I have had the opportunity to approach the city center from every direction possible. This is how it looks coming in from the Industry Hill area. I’m particularly fond of how the various bits come into alignment to reveal or hide each other. Comparing and contrasting the different approaches, we can read different stories about who each route is for and the how they are expected to use it.
In July of 2023, I made a 28-panel laser print of this image and attached it to 6th Street during Art Crush, our local, art-focused street festival. You can’t believe how difficult it is to get folks to walk out onto “The Largest Photograph in Winston-Salem.” I know y’all were raised right and treat prints with respect, but when a photographer specifically invites you to get up close and personal with his work, go do it!
