Winston-Salem, NC. 9 January, 2019. This little auto shop is practically surrounded by construction right now. I’m a little concerned that it’s soon going to get bulldozed to make way for something more in line with the current state of property development here in Winston-Salem. There are a lot of buildings like this in town. I wonder what we’ll lose if they go away. Maybe I’ve been looking at too many Walker Evans photographs.

Update, February 2020: It did get bulldozed to make way for some condos. This is why I make these photographs. The urban environment is made mostly of concrete, but that doesn’t mean it’s permanent. Things change, and it happens more frequently than you’d think. Pay attention!
